Only half of Americans against whaling?

Poll result:

Animal Planet today released the results of a national Online Zogby Interactive poll of 3,412 Americans ...

... Slightly more than half (53%) said it is not ethically or morally right to kill whales, with 20% disagreeing and 27% unsure.

Interesting. I would have thought that the numbers would be more heavily against whaling (by default), however generally speaking I believe that most people in most countries really don't care much about whaling.

Interesting that Animal Planet would commission such a poll. Interesting further that a 53% result is labelled as a majority against whaling.

I am however with you in being surprised that the wall to wall anti-whaling hysteria generated by a willingly biased media has only produced such a low percentage with no sizable constituency of whale eaters in the US to counter the lies and misinformation.

That said, singling out a species such as whales as some sort of uber animal out of bounds to be eaten is obviously non-sensical as well as hypocritical but the fact that non-whale eater public opinion is considered of value is worrying.
