David @ Tokyo

Perspective from Japan on whaling and whale meat, a spot of gourmet news, and monthly updates of whale meat stockpile statistics

Shéna Ringö & Tokyo Incidents

Not much to report to everyone out there in Internet land, but I do want to draw some attention to my favourite singer: Shéna Ringö (椎名林檎)
To date she's released 3 albums in a slightly stop-start solo career, but now has a band called "Tokyo Incidents" (東京事変).

They released their first single on the 8th of September, and it's been getting some heavy rotation in my apartment ever since (along with selected tracks from Prince's new Musicology release). Those of you in Japan may not realise it, but you've probably heard the single already as AU are using it in their new tv commercials.

You can see the video for the new single "ideal days in ultramarine" (群青日和) in full at Toshiba's website (click on the Real Player / Windows Media Player icons).
Those of you who are a bit too old for this stuff might even recognise the second song in the video - a cover of "the lady is a tramp" - although you might not appreciate it as much as us of the younger generation (I just turned 25, but I think I am still allowed to say that).

Another snippet of one of her solo songs for those at all interested can be found at the link below:
